Saving Mother Nature
It is time that human beings take responsibility of maintaining a safe environment by curtailing activities which result to degradation of the environment especially the release of harmful gaseous emissions which result to global warming. Around the world, there have been occurrences of several catastrophes which relate to the increased level of carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere which results to higher rising temperatures.
A fact which stands is that coal burning as well as other use of fossil fuels to provide energy seems to be a thing which might not be going away soon given the fact that there’s still over-reliance on the energy produced from these fossil fuels by many industries.
This doesn’t mean that there is nothing that one can do to advocate for reduction in the green house emission. I started small by enlightening people of my community about the devastating dangers and perils of climate change, and although on a small scale, I’m happy with my progress so far.
Working for the Municipal Authority
It all started when I got employed as a worker in the municipal council around my place of birth. I was heading the department which dealt with cleaning of the city. It wasn’t that much of a challenging job and I performed my duties satisfactorily for the next three years.
While still at my position, there came a report about a forest within the locality which had been encroached. There were claims of human involvement in cutting down the trees for lumber as well as farming activities which were taking place around the edges of the forest. This was a practice which had gone on for some time and action was needed to save the forest which was also a water catchment area with numerous springs.
There was a meeting of the municipal officers as well as officers from the Environmental Managements and leaders of the region. We held several deliberations and I was tasked with the role of seeing to it that all these human activities in the forest come to an end.
Saving the Forest
It was a simple task of telling people to live. Foremost, I had to deal with a group of lucrative business men who were making a killing by cutting down the trees. These were tycoons who were connected with people in the government and could not bow to my threats. The battle lasted for about three months with a cat-and-mouse game but with the help of wildlife official who accepted the responsibility of guarding the forest, I was able to win.
While fighting these rich businessmen, there was also another headache that I was facing. It was from another group of squatters, as they claimed to be, who had settled on some cleared parts of the forests. Through the intervention of local leaders, it took us another 3 months to find a place to settle them. This wasn’t an easier task since they didn’t want to leave the forest and be resettled on small pieces of land. However the battle was won successfully.
Tree Planting
Then for the next 5 months, I was managed to oversee the replanting of the cleared forest area to replace the lost trees. Thanks to schools and other supportive organizations who helped in replanting the forest, because today, the entire community came to realize all what I was doing was for the benefit of everyone. We have a greener environment and everyone feels safe.
